Rope Handling

It's important to understand the core terms of rope when talking about rope handling.

Bite - the loop made by folding the rope in half. The starting point for ropework.

Tail - the part of the rope that isn't the bite. Ropework is about starting from the bite and working your way down the tail

Knot - a stable intertwining of rope. A knot shouldn't come apart whether it's under tension or not.

Tension - *insert physics stuff*

Friction - an unstable intertwining of rope. A friction will move or come apart when it's not under tension.

The Basics

The basics of ropework is starting with a knot, applying frictions as you move down the tail, and then terminating with another knot.
